A forceful leap for Dorset Creative, robotics and medical simulation…

medical simulation

Today marks a milestone step for Dorset Creative. Many months of discussion and research around the prospect of developing a dedicated medical simulator for robotic hip surgery training has come to fruition. We are excited to announce our long-awaited collaboration with Bournemouth University to advance the training simulator through a PhD Studentship – which is recruiting now: https://www1.bournemouth.ac.uk/study/courses/phd-studentship-exploring-development-evaluation-dedicated-simulator-hip-surgery-training

The three-way collaborative project will use the forefront of new and emerging technologies available and brings together an extremely experienced team, bridging key areas in games/software development and healthcare, enabling Dorset Creative to work in partnership with the renowned Orthopaedic Research Institute (ORI) at Bournemouth University and highly acclaimed professors from BU’s Creative Technology Department. Over the next 3 years, the team will explore the development and evaluation of a prototype focusing on the simulation of hip surgery, via the use of a robotic arm for training purposes.

The product will emulate current robotic arm-assisted hip surgery approaches, but is envisaged to be more mobile and cost-efficient whilst retaining the accuracy expected by a trainee and trainer combined, as exhibited on the more expensive dedicated equipment (which is gradually becoming the accepted norm for surgeries of this type today).
